The Great Commission Starts with a Simple Shirt
- by Oscar Serrano
"Go therefore and make disciples of all nations..." (Matthew 28:19). The Great Commission is a call to every believer to share the good news of Christ. While this task can feel daunting, the truth is that even small actions can contribute to this global mission. And yes, that includes wearing a faith-based shirt.
Clothing is a powerful form of non-verbal communication. Studies in neuro-linguistic programming (NLP) show that visual cues can influence conversations and create subconscious rapport. A well-designed shirt featuring a Bible verse or message of hope can open doors for meaningful dialogue. It’s a silent yet bold declaration of faith that can break the ice and lead to deeper conversations about Christ.
As Paul urged in Romans 1:16, “For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes.” And Peter reminds us, “Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have” (1 Peter 3:15).
Think of it this way: every person who reads your shirt is one step closer to encountering the gospel. You may never know the full impact of wearing a simple message, but God works in unseen ways. What starts as a glance at a verse could become a life-changing moment for someone else.
Will you take this small but significant step toward fulfilling the Great Commission? Let your wardrobe be your witness. Carry the message, spark the conversation, and let Christ work through you.
